Hi Caza, who gave you the results if you haven't seen GP yet?

Loss of cartilage is caused by Osteo-arthritis so I'd question the GP about the info you've been given.

I've added a link about OA for you to gather further information.

Thanks for the reply, it was the receptionist.

My gp had previously shown me the X-Ray of my knee & explained why it wasn't OA but as she won't answer questions about RA coz I'm under a consultant for that,I wondered if it could possibly be RA? I am slowly being driven round the bend by all this & feel like throwing the towel in. X

I've just visited that web site & no where does it say that you feel ill with it & I do. I get so tired with flu like symptoms. I'm moaning again,I shall just stop & go out for a walk while the sun shines, yes it really is here, for now x

Hi Lesley, I had bi-lateral total knee replacements 2 years ago (both done together) and I still get swelling and pain around my new knees and thought this would be impossible, but I've got R.A., and apparently the consultant says it's not uncommon. I've just had rituximab again and with that and steroids, I feel a lot better again for a while!

Hi Caza, Loss of cartilage happens also in RA and Pa of the fine bones, as in the wrist, hand and spine. That's the culprit that causes the pain when there is no longer any cushioning between joints. I had surgery 3 months ago to correct some ugly damage to my right wrist, as a result of many years without any anti-inflamatory drugs. All the cartilage in the wrist and that part of the hand connecting the wrist, had caused several displaced small bones, so those were removed. Also, about 2 inches of the ulnar bone(that makes your wrist bone) was removed to allow more flexibility. Results, no pain with use! No problem in movement. I can't say enough about how satisfied I am with this one.

My two new knees are now 5 years old and the best part of me!!

Lesly: I had my neck fusion 12 years ago, no problem since. Good luck with that, just follow the post-op instructions, you'll be fine in no time! L.xx

Thanks for the reply you sound so positive.I don't know where these results will lead.I guess at the moment I just want a name to what's going on with my body & then take it from there. What is PA? So much to learn & take in. Thanks to you all for your help x

Hi Caza

PA is referring to psoriatic arthritis, another type of inflammatory arthritis, so it has some similarities with RA. Arthritis Research UK have some more information about this condition: arthritisresearchuk.org/art...

Thanks Sarah for replying,it doesn't say on the information that you feel ill with psoriatic arthritis & I get flu like symptoms where I just have to go to bed. I don't have any skin or eye problems & my nails are fine. Can RA affect necks?

Unfortunately, yes, RA can affect any joint in the body. And if it does affect the spine or back it is more commonly the upper part of the spine, and the neck. I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Yes thank you it does. I feel more & more sure that is RA. I woke up yesterday feeling really unwell with a very painful & swollen neck,at the top of my spine. I really don't think it's OA, I don't believe that I could of developed OA in all the joints in my body in the space of just a year & feel so ill with it. The one thing that doesn't seem to fit with RA is that when I have a flare I just feel so sick, a bit like morning sickness where just the whiff of a coffee, which I love, can make my stomach churn. Have you heard of this before? Thank you for your help.
